I’ve always had a passion for art and
movement, whenever possible, combining the two. Logically, dance
became a major focus in life. At age 7, I began 20+ years of
training in ballet and jazz. During the course of those years, there
were numerous stage performances with local dance companies and
theater groups in Oregon and California. Yes…I even sang.
Some time
in my mid-twenties, I decided that I could not be outdone by the
peppy Aerobics instructors around. So, then began a long history of
teaching Aerobics (now known as group exercise). This “addiction”
to Aerobics coupled with my love for dance led me right into
competition. After winning local and regional competitions, I went
to Nationals. That is where competing stopped: a back injury that
led to surgery took me out.
Here is an
example of how bad things can lead to good… during the process of
rehab, I discovered Pilates. One thing led to another. I sought
certification through Turning Point Studio and started teaching. I
have gained strength in my body unlike that of any other
conditioning method I’ve ever tried. Whether I am instructing, or
doing Pilates myself, it is the ultimate in personal satisfaction
and fulfillment.
Even though
this passion has always been a part of me, it has taken a back seat
in my adult life to “making a living.” I have a deep admiration for
those who make a living doing what they love. I have reached a point
in my life where I want to be one of “those.” I have been blessed to
have had a long and interesting career in dentistry, but I’m ready
to live my passion.
It has been
said, “Above all else, unto thine own self be true.” I have made it
my goal to live by that. Teaching Pilates is a product of
being true to myself and my passion. |
